xQc wants to do what it wants to do

Félix “xQc” Lengyel, one of the world’s most popular video game streamers, has started doing sponsored online game streams again after quitting them almost a year ago. Best known for his Overwatch streams – he was a professional Overwatch League player – xQc ended his game streams in June 2021 after admitting he was “mildly, if not moderately” addicted.

On Monday, however, xQc was back to streaming online slots. Many of his viewers berated him for this, so he felt compelled to explain his decision. The controversial streamer basically blamed the viewers.

Everyone threw us all under the bus when the chips fell, and everyone turned against us.

“Everyone threw us all under the bus when the chips fell, and everyone turned on us,” he said, likely referring to past criticism he’s received for the games. chance online.

“Everyone was a bunch of bitches,” xQc added. “But when other streamers [decided to resume sponsored gambling streams], everyone turned around and said, ‘Oh man, if I had that much money, I would do it too! I respect this guy! ‘”

Game streaming is allowed on Twitch, although many consider it unethical, particularly because it can and does expose children to high-stakes betting. As of this writing on Tuesday afternoon ET, “slots” is among the top 12 most viewed Twitch categories.

Lost $2 million in April

This all comes just two weeks after Lengyel said he lost nearly $2 million gambling in April. In a joint stream/podcast with popular streamer Inane “Pokimane” Anys, xQc said, “Yeah, I’m hooked. I lost $2 million…$1.85 million this month,” which Pokimane just looked exasperated.

His revelation was in response to Pokimane asking him if he would enjoy playing it so much if he didn’t stream it. xQc answered in the affirmative. He added: “I have one of the biggest and most incredibly addictive personalities you can find. I’m addicted to everything I do. […] I still do. Is it good? No, it’s terrible. It’s a disease. It’s sick. I am sick. But you know what, I can afford to be sick. I’m lucky.”

During a huge data hack on Twitch last year, it was revealed that xQc was not only one of the highest earners on the streaming platform, but nearly the highest, period. Counting only revenue paid to it by Twitch, xQc earned $8.45 million from August 2019 to October 2021, trailing only “CriticalRole,” which earned $9.63 million. Despite multiple suspensions, xQc was the most-watched Twitch streamer in 2020 and 2021. He recently set his all-time high with 312,000 concurrent viewers during the Overwatch 2 beta launch in late April.

xQc’s game got even more attention when his dad caught wind of it and called him when he was streaming, expressing his concern.

Game streaming made headlines

Gambling streaming has made headlines several times over the past few months. In February, high-stakes slot streamer Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam called out fellow popular gaming streamer “Roshtein” for not being honest about his wins and losses. Trainwreck accused Roshtein of making it seem like huge jackpot wins are the norm and winning at gambling is easy.

Two months ago, Twitch streamer “Xposed” had a disturbing meltdown live on camera when a gaming session turned sour. He was “bonus hunting” but wasn’t having much luck, so he took the $558,000 balance he had from the site he was playing slot machines at the blackjack tables. Xposed bumped it up to around $850,000 before losing it all in about half an hour. He raved and raved, accusing the site of being a scam, before finally throwing his chair at his computer, cutting off his feed.

A week later, Trainwreck hit a world record for online slots without a jackpot of $22.5 million.

Finally, in April, one of Pokimane’s viewers said in text chat during his stream that he was inspired to play big because of the Trainwreck streams, after which he lost $60,000. Pokimane was shocked by this and urged him to seek professional help.
