CHON BURI: A pub operator in Pattaya has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an online gambling operation and illicit drug trafficking.

The arrest of Bone Pub Pattaya owner Nitiphat Chokchaithanaporn, 44, follows a raid on the entertainment venue on April 22, Pattaya Police Chief Pol Col Kullachart Kullachai said on Tuesday.

At the time, police seized illegal drugs and arrested 22 Thai and Chinese nationals. The arrest team searched five houses in the Phra Tamnak area after learning that the suspects often gather there.

Pol Col Kullachart said the five houses served as the operating location of an online website, Bone1688, and that several soldiers were also found at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that Mr Nitiphat was involved in the online gambling operation. An arrest warrant has been issued against him.

Furthermore, the pub owner was also involved in making “happy water”, a new type of illegal drug cocktail whose use became rampant in nightclubs.

This cocktail is made by mixing other drugs – usually a combination of ecstasy, methamphetamine, diazepam, caffeine and tramadol (a pain reliever) – and dissolving the powder in hot water or mixing it with sugary drinks.

It is popular among pub visitors, especially Chinese tourists, the Pattaya police chief said.

During his interrogation, Mr. Nitiphat denied all the charges.

The arrest team seized his property for examination and extended their investigation.
